Amfri farms limited has been involved in the production and processing of certified organic and bio dynamic Demeter fruits, vegetables, herbs, cereals and spices for export for almost two decades.
The company’s flagship plantation, 88 years old, 1,497 acre (600 hectare) kyampisi estates is certified organic of which over 700 acres (300ha) are certified bio dynamic, Demeter – the only such plantation on the equatorial belt in the entire world.
The company’s goal is to reignite a sacred concern for nature and to become a regional leader in the production and provision of exceptional certified organic and bio dynamic fruits, vegetables, herbs, cereals and spices. it strives to share organic and bio dynamic agricultural methods and training with over 340 out-growers and, over time increase the out-grower base to over 500 out-growers distributed across the region.
Widely acknowledged as the market leader in the production and export of certified organic and Demeter products in the region, Amfri intends to focus on and liaise closely with globally recognized companies and universities to enable Amfri to maintain its pioneering and preeminent position for the production and processing of certified organic and bio dynamic fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, cereals and medicinal plants.
Every kilo of product shipped from Kyampisi sequesters over 37.3kgs of carbon dioxide and C02 equivalents! that makes Kyampisi a massive carbon sink sequestering over 2,800mt of carbon dioxide and CO2 equivalents in 2103 alone.
Amfri is undoubtedly the preeminent custodian and guardian of animals, plants and ecological systems as evidenced by our newly evolving 500 acres Mabira project which is rehabilitating the forest and incorporating a high value spice plantation within.
Kyampisi Farm & Demeter Training
This training takes place at Kyampisi Farm, and is meant to equip all members with the concepts of biodynamic farming. It gives a refresher training, as well as training all new staff about biodynamic farming.
COMPARISON BETWEEN DEMETER AND BIODYNAMIC FARMING
- Biodynamic farming is the advanced form of organic agriculture, while Demeter are products which come from biodynamic farming, or a brand name for products from biodynamic farming.
- Biodynamic farming is harmonizing nature to improve on the quality of agricultural produce while Demeter is a certification attained after practicing biodynamic farming.
- Biodynamic farming involves the use of preparations as named below:
500 (horn manure), 501 (silica), 502 (yarrow), 503 (chamomille), 504 (stinging nettle), 505 (oak bark), 506 (dandelion), 507 (valerian), 508 (horsetail).
500 and 501 are field preparations whereas the others are compost preparations.
