Outgrowers
The company works with 340 organic certified out-growers in the districts of Luweero, Kamuli, Kayunga, Mpigi, Rakai, Mukono, Wakiso, Lyantonde, Masaka, Budaka, Mubende, Arua, Zombo, Koboko, Pakwach, Pader districts which contribute up to 90% of its total production.
Over the past year, our chia market has grown hence the need to expand our organic operations and out grower schemes of this crop in West Nile and Northern Uganda where the crop has proven to work best.
Also the need to provide ready market and improve both environment and house hold incomes by best organic practices thereby alleviating poverty and improving livelihoods in these regions drew our interest.
Amfri Farms will be working in districts of Arua, Koboko, Amuru, Pader, Zombo and Packwach for the next decades.
Specifically, in Packwach our focus will be in Alwi Sub county, Ayila and Abok parishes to start with. Our target is to start with 150 to 200 farmers in these two parishes.
Amfri farms intends to recruit, train, certify and provide seeds to farmers and purchase their produce at farm gate prices at different collection centers.
Expansion in other parishes will continue rolling over the months and years as our intention is to recruit at least 15,000 farmers in the West Nile and Northern region.
It is African Organic’s responsibility is to train farmers in organic farming as they are financially responsible for the certification made by the ECOCERT. The large organic farm Kyampisi is an experimental farm where new crops and ideas are tested.We experiment and hold workshops and classes, where farmers are trained in organic farming and trained in the handling of the products so they can be exported and meet the demands of Europe.
